John Ives’ bold , colourful oil paintings range from surreal street and ocean scapes to expressive scenes of humanity and nature. Reinterpreting current and timeless issues through dreams, memories and the endless realms of imagination. He paints many themes and yet his work is often autobiographical putting his experiences and the things close to his heart into the narrative.
John is currently based in Brighton UK. As well as exhibiting his work in Brighton he has had shows in London and Vancouver.
He has found his many travels to be a great influence on his work, gaining experience and inspiration from the places and people he’s encountered. John is very drawn to the ocean. His love for the sea and the life within it surface often in his work. His 20ft by 10ft Whale mural has become a landmark in Brighton’s busy North Lanes.2011 – ‘Wish you were here’ exhibition.
